Shutter Island

Here we can see that the detective is in a world of confusion and doesn’t know what is going on and is starting to think differently to when he first entered the mental hospital. This is one of the unique selling points which makes ‘Shutter island’ a very popular and different film, because the detective is the one cracking under the pressure.

In this picture we can see the normal conventions of a horror film, the fact that scary people jump out on to the hero unexpectedly makes the film fall into the familiar horror genre. People like this because it is an aspect of the horror films they like.

Here we can see again the detective is in distress and feels and even looks confused. This is the same unique selling point we see again emphasised in the film. This makes the film very special and adds an element of thinking into the process, making it a very good example of a conspiracy thriller.

In this picture we see a very scary women that follows the normal horror/ conspiracy thriller genre conventions. By adding scary looking characters to the film it attracts the audience who like these genres to watch it as they like a sense of familiarity.

This picture shows one of the narratemes the film follows, in the picture we see the note pad has written on it ‘RUN!’ This is addressing the hero with a warning that something bad is going to happen to him due to the fact it is written in the notepad.

We see the two detectives and one police man enter the mental hospital this follows the normal concept of conspiracy thriller. Two detectives are sent to a spooky and mental hospital to try and solve a mystery of a missing women. This is the central basis of the film.
Bridesmaides

In this picture we see all the girls gathered waiting for the dress to be tried on. A familiar character you always get in a chick flick such as ‘Bridesmaids’ is a overweight loveable yet nasty character. Here we can see the overweight character has just burped and farted but the girls still love her for who she is.

This picture we see we see an aspect of the unique selling point of this film. The fact that the maid of honour has not got a good life that she enjoys, she is letting her self-go and is being exposed to the elements of fun and is doing as she wishes as she doesn’t have a partner like the rest of her friends and is taking her angry out by letting her self-go.

Here in this picture we see all the girls celebrating together, this is very typical of a film like this because when a best friend gets married in a group it is a big deal and everyone is very happy for that friend who is getting married. This picture shows them all happy and celebrating.

Also we can see the unique selling point being expressed again by the best friend trying to comfort her self by drinking alcohol because she is the left out one in the group by not having a partner so she feels she needs to get her mind of things and resorts to alcohol.

In this picture we see the best friend is researching on how to be a maid of honour as he fried has asked her to be one. This follows the narratemes of ‘counteraction: hero chooses positive action.’ Even though she has no partner and feels very left out she still agrees to be her maid of honour taking the positive action.

Here we can see that the bride to be and the best friend of the bride to be, are very excited as they are close friends, this is normal for females to be excited for each other. This attracts the audience who enjoy this genre of film as they can relate to it.
White Chicks

In this image we can see the two FBI agents holding up their badges this is a familiar site in action films with FBI agents and gives the audience that well known feeling that they are watching an action film.

In this image we see also a typical action movie theme of the agent aiming towards an enemy with a gun. This also follows the narrateme of ‘testing: hero is challenged to prove heroic qualities’. Here the agent is challenged to defeat the enemy with his shooting skills, and they are put to the test.

In this picture we now see the unique selling point in that even though it is an action film we see two ‘dumb’ blondes that add a comedy side to the action film. This comedy mixed with action is what makes this film unique and makes people want to watch it.

Also we see in this picture the two agents have gone undercover disguised as the two original sisters. This is a first for most action movies but it also adds the element of comedy into it as now they have turned into white females when previously they were black males.

Here we can see a sense of familiarity in the fact that when girls are all together they look after and take care of each other if one of their friends in the group are hurt.

In the final picture we can see the agent undercover actually beating up one of the enemies in this film. Again, showing that mixture of action and comedy because it’s funny because on the outside it looks like a women beating up a guy but really it is a guy. Also it uses the normal storyline of there are FBI agents trying to hunt down the bad guys.
